Snap-shots before tonight’s game

Ray Emery has landed on the injured reserve, according to the Flyers’ web site. Though the team has yet to release a statement, CSN Philly reported that Emery has a “nagging injury” (now confirmed a a surgery-requiring abdominal issue that will sideline Emery for six weeks) that’s putting him on the shelf. If I were a betting man, I’d say the injury is pride. You know, after getting straight curb-stomped by the Ovechkin-less Capitals on Saturday. There’s been no AHL call-up yet to replace Emery on the roster. My guess? Paul Holmgren’s working the phones right now, trying to secure the services of this brilliant netminder:

-We didn’t get a chance to touch on this since John Stevens got the Vince McMahon treatment last Friday, but Peter Laviolette (obviously) is your new head coach. Laviolette’s a good bit different from Stevens, which most (including me) see as a good thing. He’s authoritarian, mainly, which is what this teem needed. Think Tom Coughlin, but without the ridiculous red face. You do not want to mess with a guy whose face gets like that. Seriously Tom. Enough already.

Clearly coaching for the wrong NFC East franchise, eh Washington?

Yikes. Regardless, Laviolette’s going for his first win tonight against the New York Islanders, who are somehow above the Flyers in the standings. And by “somehow” I mean because we’ve sucked balls for eight of the last nine games. However, our one lone win in that stretch?  That’s right. It was over these very same Islanders. Who I’ll remind you still employ Garth Snow as a GM. Think about that while you’re watching the game tonight.
