This Thanksgiving, we’re thankful for the New York Islanders
November 27th, 2009 | by versionx |Of course, without whom, it would have been much more difficult to end our three-game losing streak. The Flyers did just that, downing the Isles 2-1 in (what passes for) New York on Wednesday. Scott Hartnell got the game-winner off a beautiful backhanded cross-ice pass from Jeff Carter in the third period. El Capitan scored the Flyers’ first goal in the second on the power play. Former Flyer Marty Biron played well in net, but backup Brian Boucher stole the show for the Orange and Black
On a night when much of the nation was getting plastered, Boucher was making saves as often as this guy drinks Jager Bombs. He was in the zone all night, robbing Islander after Islander of easy chances, often from point blank range. You can bet Boucher has earned himself an extra start or two, considering he’s only allowed three goals in his last two starts.
Danny Briere will miss one more contest after being suspended in the Flyers’ 5-4 loss to the Avalanche on Monday. He’s being replaced in the lineup by Andreas Nodl, who has performed well defensively in his stead.
That last game that Briere will miss will be tonight at home against his former squad. The Sabres roll into town trying to shake a four-game losing streak. Ryan Miller, the NHL’s best goaltender, will likely be in net for the Sabres tonight. Buffalo is 1-1 against the Flyers already this season. Expect to see Ray Emery back between the pipes tonight for Philadelphia.
That’s it for this week. Be sure to follow PhlyingPucks on Twitter, as we’ll be breaking news there as well regarding both the Flyers and this blog in the future. Hope all of you had a happy and only mildly-fattening Thanksgiving this year.
