Even I can’t defend this

After taking a few days off to study for/do amazing on my GRE’s, I return to the NHL world to get ready for my Tuesday post-game update. What do I find? This monstrosity on the front page of Yahoo!’s NHL section. Awful to read, yes, but that season was utterly horrifying and a year in which we won only three  games at home,

You read me right. Three games. Out of 41 played at Wachovia Center that season. That’s 7.3% of all home games ended in a Flyers victory. And somehow we still only had the fourth-worst season in the NHL in the last decade? Thank you very much, Penguins, Islanders and Thrashers.

That said, the Flyers are still majorly hot right now. Like, Alicia Silverstone in the mid-90’s hot. The opposite of Sandra Oh hot, if you will. They’ve won six of their last seven contests, their latest victory coming in a 3-2 squeaker over those boat race-stealing jerkfaces from New Jersey. JVR pumped in the game-winning goal in the third period while teeth-related fighter Scott Hartnell and Darrell Powe also tallied. Ray Emery continues his solid play in goal and is in true workhorse mode, as he’s started 16 of the Flyers’ 17 games this season.

Philadelphia now is in a tie for third place in the Atlantic Division with the Rangers of New York, but since the Flyers have three games in hand, the own that spot in the standings for now. The Orange and Black will next take to the ice tomorrow evening against the surprisingly (somehow) not terrible Los Angeles Kings. They’re be in Mannywood, so you’re looking at a 10 p.m. start time if you want to catch the game on Comcast SportsNet.

If the Flyers want to motivate themselves, I suggest posting this photo up all along the boards in their own zone.
